I started with Big C in November 2021 and look after the day to day running of the Support Centre in King’s Lynn.

I had been volunteering at a local Hospice in Chichester and enjoyed being able to support patients and their families. When I knew I was moving to Norfolk, I started looking to see if there was anything similar and saw the position with Big C advertised and applied. It is a privilege to work for the charity.

I look after operations to ensure our support centres can operate effectively and efficiently. I manage and develop new projects and services and have a keen interest in health equalities and end of life care.

Before joining Big C, I volunteered as an NHS Cancer Awareness Champion, a cause close to my heart after losing my Dad suddenly following his cancer diagnosis 6 weeks previously. I am one of six and following our father’s death support was difficult to find so when I saw that Big C was opening a support Centre in my hometown I could see the real benefit to patients and families. When I got the call to offer me the job I burst into tears! I have felt privileged and proud to be part of the charity ever since.

I work in the King’s Lynn Centre and provide emotional support to our service users either by phone or in person and look after their wellbeing. I facilitate the Ladies, Carers and Bereavement groups and ensure that our service users have a safe and confidential place, where they can share personal experiences and feelings with others in similar circumstances.

I used to volunteer with Age UK. I loved interacting with the people I met and realised how important it was for them to have someone who would take the time to listen and talk to them, and also provide emotional support. I wanted a role where I could continue to do this and working for Big C has offered me this opportunity.

“Having lost the ‘light of my life’ to cancer, Big C were immediately there for me.

The team at King’s Lynn are so friendly and empathetic and always offer support or they’re there just to listen, which is what you need when you have just lost someone very dear to you.

A fantastic service, support, and team.”
