Cancer affects everyone in different ways. For many, living with cancer can have an impact on your own physical and mental wellbeing, and for those close to you. Relaxation is one method that can help you to look after your own wellbeing, especially when you are feeling stressed or worried.
At our Support & Information Centres we hold Relaxation for Wellbeing sessions which can help you to improve relaxation, restfulness and wellbeing.
Many people who participate in these sessions find they benefit from them prior to treatment, in between appointments or to combat the stress that surrounds cancer.
Each session is run as a group and involve sitting in a chair fully clothed while a trained facilitator talks through the relaxation programme for you.
Do I need to be stressed or anxious to attend a session?
No, these sessions are for anyone affected by cancer. They will benefit by preventing stress and anxiety, as well as reducing it. They also teach you deep breathing exercises. This technique can be used wherever you are in order to help relax you.
What kind of relaxation methods are taught?
The relaxation methods used are diaphragmatic breathing and mindfulness.
How long are the sessions and which Centres run them?
The sessions are an hour long. These are currently being run online and we have one session on Tuesdays at 10.00am and two sessions on Thursday at 10.00am and 11.15am. For more information, call our Telephone Support Line at 0800 092 7640 (Monday-Friday, 9am-5.00pm)
