Complementary therapies

We know that cancer can affect us all in different ways. From the physical effects of a diagnosis and its treatment, to dealing with the emotional impact on ourselves, our families and those close to us. We offer a range of complementary therapies at Big C, to ensure your physical and emotional wellbeing is cared for. Choose from gentle massage, relaxation, reflexology and reiki.

Spa treatments at Big C

We are working with Jennifer Young trained therapists to offer patients a special oncology taster treatment. Their product line has been developed to meet the needs of anyone with or recovering from cancer to give a sense of enjoyment, comfort and relief.

Gentle massage

Massage is a form of therapeutic touch which can be used to aid relaxation and comfort.

It’s a hands-on gentle massage to help with neck, shoulder and back aches. Massage can help to reduce stress, tension, and anxiety.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a specialised form of foot massage. It’s a non-intrusive therapy that involves applying pressure to ‘reflex’ zones in the feet.

It follows the theory that these zones correspond with different parts of the body and, by applying pressure to these points, health and wellbeing is improved and the body is relaxed with tension reduced.

Relaxation

We hold virtual sessions to help improve relaxation, restfulness and wellbeing, which are suitable for anyone affected by cancer.

The sessions involve sitting in a chair fully clothed, with a trained facilitator taking you through a relaxation programme.

Reiki

Reiki is a form of light touch therapy focusing on the flow of positive energy through the body.

People often find that a session of Reiki creates a sense of restored calm, relaxation and mindfulness.

Complementary Therapist

I volunteer as a complimentary therapist at the Thetford Big C hub offering reiki and reflexology to those with cancer and their families.

Complimentary therapies support our well-being through promoting rest and relaxation, leaving us feeling more balanced and with a sense of peace. Simple, yet valuable.

I volunteer with the Big C for this reason – the holistic approach is an aspect the charity values and acknowledges through the variety of therapies offered, in addition to providing support and welfare advice. I feel this level of support to individuals and their families is a wonderful service to the community.

I have been providing complementary therapies at Big C for several years now, starting as a volunteer following my own cancer journey.

I provide complementary therapies promoting relaxation and much needed ‘me time’ to every person in a peaceful environment.

I find it immensely rewarding working with Big C, helping people to enjoy the benefits of relaxation and enhancing their wellbeing.
