Welfare Advice

Helping you cope with the practical matters of life with cancer.

We all know the impact cancer can have on our lives and those around us. Whether you have been diagnosed yourself, or you are looking after someone with cancer, our trained advisors are here to talk you through your social and financial concerns when living with cancer.

What is Welfare Advice?

Big C works with Advisors from your local Citizens Advice service, to provide a range of support, helping you sort the practicalities, so you can concentrate on getting better.

Our welfare Adviser will give practical advice and information on benefits, loans, housing, employment issues, travel expenses, childcare, blue badge applications, bus passes, help with form filling and much more.

When you see our Welfare Advisor, you will need to bring:

  • Your National Insurance Number
  • Details of your medical team
  • Information and correspondence of your health conditions
  • Contract of Employment if you are still working
  • Copies of care plans
  • Bank Account Details
  • GP details and list of medications
  • Date of recent overnight stays in hospital

If you cannot find all these documents, don't worry, our Advisors will still be able to see you.
